Winning More Customers, Through Brand Loyalty

Jon Mifsud · 15 Mar 2017

A loyal customer is quite possibly your best ambassador. Plenty of people speak proudly of brands and products they love. You might unknowingly be doing that for other brands yourself. So how exactly do you improve your chances of getting more of these loyal customers?

Giving Back to Your Customers

Referral schemes have long been used as a means to give something back to customers. Every time a client gets another user to conduct a purchase (through a link which you provide), introduce more business to your brand by providing those same clients with a discount, or credit against their next purchase.

Whilst it cannot be denied that this system works, most of the time it is not quite as simple as it seems. Your customer is not guaranteed a return for his efforts, and that is sometimes all it takes for people to hold back on sharing the link with family and friends.

Rewarding customers for sharing information about your offer or brand can be far more effective. Technology today allows you to get customers to obtain discount offers, to be used on checkout, when they share an advert of yours on their personal social media pages. Given that the posts are organic, you do not have to pay for the additional social media exposure, and are guaranteed that the post will find it way to their friends’ feeds. The existing trust between the person sharing and their friends and family could mean that more people are compelled to check out your website.

Monitoring your Progress

With an exercise such as this, it is essential to monitor social media mentions, intersections, and page/site visits throughout the campaign, as well as any linked purchases. It is important to note that, in some cases, results might take a while. For some products, it could even take months for someone to make a related purchase, always depending on the products and pricing.

If you do not have an e-commerce website but would love to get social referrals, there are other things you could do. These include:

  1. Providing access to a white paper or research paper for download;
  2. Giving access to a music/video download;
  3. A free/discounted consultation;
  4. An in-store discount or loyalty card.
